NaNoWriMo

Have you heard about NaNoWriMo?  I have been hearing about it (and scoffing, I’ll admit) for about five years.  I finally decided to see if I was up to the challenge.  I must be crazy to think I can do this with three kids and a full time job teaching, but it isn’t as if sitting on my rear scoffing about it for five years has enabled me to put pen to paper.

You can follow my progress if you like at my personal blog and NaNoWriMo profile.

  1. Dana,

I'm both proud of you and scared for you. Best of luck. I had a student a couple of years ago who completed the challenge — as prolific as you are, I suspect you'll have no trouble.

  2. Hey! I decided to take the plunge this year too! Perhaps we can support each other…with the few words we'll be able to spare meeting the deadline!

  3. I hope you made it. I tried it this year for the first time as well, after my younger brother met the goal last year (he's an engineering student. I'M the english teacher. I was very jealous.) I only made it to 13,000 something. Hope you faired better.

  4. I've done NaNo for three years, and I love the challenge. For the past two years, our English department has encouraged all tenth grade students to participate. More than 300 students participated this year, and nearly 50 completed the entire challenge. 🙂

My students from last year bugged me to death in October asking if we were going to do it again. I told them to go for it, and I'd cheer them on. It's amazing how much they love it!
